The Story Behind the Painting:  “Naptime" carries the warmth of personal connection and cherished memories. When I was five years old, my dad brought home a donkey to our farm on Thanksgiving morning. We kids were very excited and wanted to take a ride on our new donkey. I got on and in no time, i was bucked off. Much was made of the ‘get back on the horse’ idea, but I’m sure I was shedding some tears. And I did not get back on. Since I had broken my wrist, even though we didn’t know it at the time. I remember sitting with my wrist on a heating pad on the couch arm that day, while mom was making the Thanksgiving dinner. We went to the doctor after the weekend and I was given a splint which I proudly wore to kindergarten. Even though ‘Pancho’ the donkey was not very happy with me and I got hurt, I don’t hold it against him anymore. I still love donkeys but now I’m sure not to get on one that hasn’t been broken to ride!
